Dear Kim,
I had long heard many praises about your wonderful approach and had been waiting for an opportunity to go hear you in person. I made the long drive to Freeport one night in January... arrived just as your lecture was starting. It took all but 2 minutes before I felt compelled to take notes. Your wisdom and generosity took my breath away. I sobbed for most of the lecture and for a moment felt like I wanted to start all over as a parent. Angels sent me there that night to listen to what you had to say. And I can honestly tell you that you have already made a huge impact on my family. Thank you so much. I am dedicated to bringing your lectures and workshops to as many parents as I can in our little community. What you say is so true. I come from a family of public school educators in Quebec and I struggle every time I visit when I see my nieces and nephews spend hours in front of a screen, including a 3-year old Autistic nephew. I have given up trying to convince my siblings of the negative side-effects of the screen on their children, and because I don't want my own children to spend hours in front of a screen with their cousins... I have limited my visits to Quebec. It is so hard to see how the screen is not only destroying brain cells, but it is also affecting family reunions and good-old conversations... I feel compelled to let you know how we need you to keep doing what you are doing so we can carry your message to our communities. Thank you so much. |

Lecture at Merriconeag Waldorf School |

I was at
your presentation last night in Freeport, Maine. My
husband and I were so glad we made the drive....
After our children were born we were grateful to find that the Waldorf curriculum reflected what we had come to on our own as parents -- a regular life, whole foods, no media, and
lots of creative play outdoors. However as the
years roll forward, what seems like private choices on lifestyle become pressed
and pressured. We are told it is hard enough to make a living – what will our children do without computer skills?
And if they don’t start playing sports when they’re fice, they won’t make the
team when they’re 15.
We were
reminded last night that what matters is not vocational training or the
unremitting drum beat of club soccer. What matters is that we live a life that
reflects the golden moments we were given as children.
This is a very long way of thanking your for your work and your talk. We
felt heartened, encouraged, braver and stronger. We felt more sure than ever
that the life we dreamed of living is the life that is worthwhile, substantial
and sustaining to our children.
And so,
when we had a late start at school this morning, I slowed down and let time
unroll and made beeswax flowers with the girls as our two black cats lounged on
the bed with us. The sky did not fall in, and they headed off to school feeling that the extra time at home was a blessing, not an inconvenience.
Best
wishes to you and yours in all you do. I think you are heroic, a white knight in what
really is a battle for humanity. |

I attended your talk in Chicago. Thankyou so much for your sense of humor and humility. My husband and I left enlightened and relieved to know that we aren't the only ones dealing with some issues with our almost five-year-old daughter. We are eargerly awaiting the publishing of your Simplicity Parenting book so that we can pass it on to our friends.

I truly enjoyed hearing the lecture on social inclusion. I brought all the CD's and have told many people about them. I have used what I learned with wonderful results. Simplicity Parenting is a must have for all parents. It will save you time, money and arguements. I recommend all you can get of Kim John Payne's work - he has such insight and sound, practical ideas. |

This was one of the BEST workshops I've ever attended! Absolutely brilliant! I went with a fellow child care provider (she told me about it), & we were talking about all the wonderfully insightful things that are so completely true that Kim John Payne was saying, all the way back to my house in Amherst. I bought 4 CDs, & am so happy I could take his words home with me. Thank you!
